European Conference 2017

WOW – what an amazing conference it truly was in Basel, Switzerland!

The European Conference always comes up trumps however this year JCI UK members really showed exactly why we are such a fantastic and successful national organisation.

The week of course, started with the terrible news of the attacks in Manchester. Our members in JCI Manchester have come together to support each other and I was very overwhelmed to see such support from the JCI world in the form of messages, emails and videos. It was very much appreciated. We love Manchester and our thoughts and best wishes go out to all those impacted.

The European Conference offers so much to our members in terms of personal development, making new friends and building new relationships. This year we had first timers who totally threw themselves outside their comfort zone which was inspirational to see. Mark Smith from JCI Sheffield & Celestine Onomo from JCI Southampton delivered training sessions to members from across Europe along with presenting a fabulous morning show.

Deputy National President Ben Hawley and I attended the business end of European Conference which involved attending Conference Assembly. This is where the future of JCI Europe is discussed and where future conferences are to be held. It was a pleasure voting in JCI Lyon, France who will hold the European Conference in 2019!

The night of the awards arrived with JCI UK nominated in a wide variety of categories and winning TWO European Awards which were:

Most Outstanding Local Organisation: JCI London
Best Local Growth & Development Programme: JCI Manchester

Shortlisted:

Best Local Personal Development Programme: JCI Manchester
Best Inter-organisation Collaboration Project: JCI London
Most Outstanding Local Project: JCI Manchester
Most Outstanding New Local Organisation: JCI Greenwich
Most Outstanding Local President: Paul Widger
Public Speaking Competition: Oliver Rieche from JCI London

These shortlisted chambers, individuals and winners really show how JCI UK is so successful in what we do. I could not have been prouder to have been there to watch the excitement and see how all that hard work has been translated. Tears from former Local Presidents, Senators and National Board members show that we are more than a membership organisation…we are a family united brought together for the love and values which JCI stands for.

A massive thank you to those members that made it such an unforgettable conference. Our National International Director Katie Ogley did a grand job organising and communicating with our delegation all week and a huge thanks to our Senators who supported on mass – it means a great deal you were there to cheer us on that celebrate with us.

JCI UK is the organisation that develops, promotes & celebrates the achievements of young leaders across our nation and in our local communities.
