Team JCI UK on Tour

The programme of international events in 2017 is unbelievably exciting!  There are a number of events throughout the year, but the most popular for JCI UK are European Conference and World Congress.

This year these take place in Basel, Switzerland and Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

European Conference: 24th - 27th May 2017

The theme of the conference is Crossing Borders, as Basel is uniquely placed to visit not only Switzerland, but Germany and France are also within easy reach on public transport.

The main conference venue is located in the inner city centre, so those wanting to take a break from the programme will have lots to see, including the city’s 40 museums!  There is even an opportunity to swim in the Rhine river, for those feeling a bit more daring.  The UK delegation hotel, The Hotel Balade, is in a beautiful area and just 1 mile from the main conference venue.

*Please note that the rate for European Conference increases on 31st March*

World Congress: 6th - 10th November 2017

First and foremost, Amsterdam is super cheap and easy for UK delegates to access by both air and sea!  Due to popular demand, I will be coordinating a mini-cruise as a method of transport to World Congress.  This will be from Newcastle to Amsterdam, leaving 5pm Saturday 4th November, and arriving early Sunday morning. This is a cost effective way of, essentially, adding another night on to your conference trip.  As the majority of members aren't local to Newcastle, the plan is to sail over and fly back to your local airport.

The programme is jam packed with opportunities for delegates to enjoy the conference, but also looking at the Sustainable Development Goals and how we can continue creating impact during and after the congress!  There will also be time to enjoy the fabulous city.  The UK delegation hotel, The Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy is just a 3 minute walk from the tram, which takes you to the heart of the city.

*Please note that the rate for World Congress increases on 28th February*

Senate Bursaries

The JCI UK Senate is keen to help new members of JCI UK become engaged with the organisation in its widest perspective.  For this reason, each year they will offer a small number of £200 bursaries for new members towards international events with both a training and social aspect.

The purpose of the bursary is to engage and enthuse new members, and so encourage long term active membership of JCI UK. This should be considered when Regional Group Chairmen are identifying who to nominate.

If you are within your first 12 months of membership, and planning on attending your first international event, please contat me for a bursary application form.  Once this is completed, it needs sending back to me with all sections completed.

*Please note that the deadline for applications is 30th March 2017*

My key focus this year is to try and ensure that JCI UK delegates have the best possible experience at international events, so if there are any questions I can answer, or support I can offer, I’d love to hear from you.  Be sure to join our facebook groups 'JCI UK at European Conference 2017' and JCI UK at World Congress 2017' for regular updates.
