Summerfest 2013
Summerfest 2013
JCI's southern regional event took place this weekend. JCI Portsmouth hosted the day and we were pleased to see attendees from across the region. Drew Charman, regional group chairman oversaw the day which began with public speaking training by Sarah Beckwith.
After lunch we put the training into practice with a series of one-minute impromptu speaking sessions describing a random object, debating for or against an issue or presenting a prepared speech. Great fun was had by all as we put into practice all the tips Sarah had highlighted for us.
One aim for the day was to give something back to the local community - JCI Portsmouth arranged for our local charity to visit and tell us a little more about their work. Attendees bought along items to donate to their brand new charity shop. Collectively we had a huge pile of goodies which will raise vital funds for The Rainbow Centre. As they say, every little helps.
A mid-afternoon break saw our own specially arranged ice cream van arrive, complete with free ice cream for attendees. What better way to celebrate summer in The Waterfront City?
The afternoon session concluded with JCI Impact, inspiring us to take action in our local communities and giving guidance on the best ways to implement new projects.
In true JCI style, evening entertainment was to follow as we headed off to Ashby’s in Southsea for drinks and a fantastic meal to catch up informally with fellow chambers, before heading out to select nightspots around town.
