Putting the 'I' in JCI
Putting the 'I' in JCI

I have always said that the International element is the jewel in the crown of JCI. Since attending my first International event in 2010, I have never looked back. I have loved every Conference I have attended, and the 2017 European Conference in Basel, Switzerland, was no exception. This event, however, was slightly different for me, as I was in role of JCI UK’s International Director.
There are several tasks involved in being the JCI UK International Director, including; arranging gatherings/drinks receptions, ensuring members knew what was happening, and coordinating support for our members who were taking part in competitions and delivering training sessions. The delegation were, as always, loud and proud when it comes to supporting the UK.
This year we had a fantastic mix of First Timers, seasoned members, and Senators. This gave great networking opportunities and a chance for delegates to meet new people at all different levels. In addition to the delegates from the UK, there were countless opportunities to meet and network with international members, both formally and informally. Fortunately for us, it was fantastic weather and were in a beautiful city, so we had spectacular surroundings for this.
If you are keen to attend an International event, you haven’t missed the opportunity this year. In 2107 we are fortunate to have the World Congress in our Area, taking place in Amsterdam 6-11 November. Even if you have you have been to a European Conference, a World Congress is still definitely an event to attend. In addition to the excellent programme events, there is one of the most exciting keynote speakers I’ve ever seen lined up; former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. This promises to be a great event, and the JCI UK delegation will be turning out in force. If you are considering attending, please be aware that the current fee goes up at the end of June, so don’t miss out.
If you’ve never been to an International conference, here’s what some of our First Timer’s thought of their experience in Basel.
Coordinating European Conference was an absolutely fantastic experience, and I hope the delegates enjoyed it too. I am so excited about World Congress and I look forward to seeing you there!
