International Peace Summit Delegates for JCI UK

Last month JCI UK offered the member the opportunity to attend the JCI International Summit on Peace this September in Malaysia. The International Summit on Peace will provide a platform for active citizens and global experts to join in building a common vision to create an everlasting world peace. During this event, participants will identify the greatest barriers to peace and formulate sustainable solutions to these challenges, empowering young people worldwide to be the generation to develop peace within themselves, their community and the world around them.
We are thrilled to announce that two member will be attending representing JCI UK. They are:
Lucy Collins from JCI Sheffield:
"I was amazed when I found out I won the sponsored place to attend the JCI International Conference on Peace taking place In Malaysia later this year. When I heard that UK National President Michael Steel was trying to contact me early on Friday afternoon, I had butterflies in my stomach and thought “it’s probably not me, they must just be contacting everyone.” Whilst I was writing my application, I almost gave up because there are so many brilliant projects and members in the UK that I thought I wouldn’t win! Needless to say, I’m so glad I pressed on with my application (until 20 minutes before the deadline, might I add!).
Excited doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel! This is such a huge opportunity, and one I never would have been offered if it wasn’t for JCI. I always wanted to work in Asia and now I get the chance to in the best possible way. So, in September I will be representing JCI UK at a global event in Malaysia, along with attendees from all over the world. That is just mind-blowing! I’m not sure it has sunk in yet. All I can say is, as long as you embrace it, JCI has a strange way of delivering what you wish for in ways you never imagined or expected."
Leonita Eva Michel from JCI Greenwich:
"I heard about the peace summit through a friend of mine and she told me that I should really apply for this. At first I was a bit hesitant but eventually I went for it and to my surprise I am going to the Peace Summit and I am so excited to go. Peace is something I am very passionate about. Peacemaking is like a second nature to me, when I'm surrounded by conflict, I naturally tend to find a solution in order for people to be at peace with each other. The Peace summit would be such a great opportunity to not only network and be surrounded by like minded people, but also being able to share your thoughts on Peace and bring forth ideas that'll enable to make this movement to be a success. Peace is an attitude, it's a mindset and having those is vital in peacemaking.
With the studies I have begun, I can bring forth different perspective when faced with a conflict. Having knowledge about race, culture and language can bring forth factors that need to be considered which would unite our communities, enable them to have a deeper understanding of their differences as well as how with their differences they can live in harmony and I believe that having these knowledge would be beneficial to JCI uk as well as my JCI Greenwich. I am so grateful to be part of this and so excited with my Journey in JCI. This is a start of a new journey and I know more is yet to come!"
Congratulations to both and we all look forward to seeing your journey to the summit in the coming months.
