Could you step up and be the 2019 Community Action Director for JCI London?
In this instalment of our series about the JCI London 2019 Council, we feature the role of Community Action Director. ‘Community’ is one of the five areas of opportunity within JCI, along with ‘business’, ‘training’, international’ and ‘social’. JCI has a global partnership with the United Nations, and this forms the basis of how we create impact in our local chambers. Our work is linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which provide a blueprint for facing global challenges and achieving a better and more sustainable future. The Community Action Director champions the SDGs, ensuring they run through everything we do, and leads the chamber’s work with charities and other community organisations. This allows members to get involved with new events while simultaneously contributing to the local community. The Community Action Director will apply the Active Citizen Framework to assess the most important needs of the London community and to develop solutions to make real positive change and impact. Another significant part of this role is recognising and promoting the fantastic community work that happens in London outside of JCI. Two programmes help us do this - The Investor in Young People Awards (to recognise businesses) and Ten Outstanding Young Persons Awards (to recognise individuals). The Community Action Director will lead these exciting programmes locally and seek out individuals and businesses doing inspiring work in the community to put forward for recognition at the National level, and beyond. Overall, The Community Action Director expresses the essence of JCI’s global mission ‘to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change’. If this opportunity excites you, please contact Deputy President Drew Cornies (drew.cornies@jcilondon.org.uk) to register your interest and then complete the Intention to Stand form and send it to Drew by 8 pm on 8 November. This form asks for the reasons you want to stand, your experience, and your ideas for the role. Two JCI members will need to propose and second your nomination. We will let you know if more than one person stands for the role in case you wish to prepare an election campaign. Candidates would be voted on by JCI London members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 14 November.
