Why JCI? Meet the member - Charlotte

We caught up with JCI Sheffield member Charlotte Scothern to find out she got involved with JCI and what she gets out of being a member.
How old are you?
28 years old
What do you do for a job?
I am a Service Development Officer, Integrated Urgent Care, with Yorkshire Ambulance Service
How did you first get involved with JCI?
I first joined JCI (originally in Rotherham) when I owned my own business as I felt quite isolated, working pretty much on my own. I was wanting something that would help build my network, but also a more fun way of networking than the traditional groups that are out there.
What initially interested you about JCI?
The wide programme of activities and events and the fact the members being like minded - a similar age group, enthusiastic and positive.
Best JCI moment so far?
I had never really done public speaking before joining JCI, but through my membership I have had lots of opportunities to develop this and I've even managed to compete internationally representing JCI UK in debating and public speaking competitions at a Europe and global level!
How has JCI helped develop you as a person?
The opportunities are endless and have given me the chance to get involved in things I never would have previously even thought about, let alone do! I've attended training sessions on topics I'd have never thought of, travelled places around the world I would have never gone to on my own, heard speeches from incredible people, seen the inside of factories and met amazing people who are now wonderful friends!
Anything else you want to tell us?
Thinking of joining? Do it, you'll not look back. I can't begin to imagine all the experiences I'd have missed out on without JCI. I don't even think I'd be in the job I am in now without it.
