Open Evening with Olympic Swimmer Katy Sexton MBE.
On Thursday 6th September at 7pm, the Portsmouth branch of Junior Chamber International will be hosting its first ever free ‘Open Evening’ for young business people to come and learn about all the organisation has to offer.
Taking place at Holiday Inn Portsmouth in Pembroke Road, Southsea, attendees will hear a variety of inspirational speakers talk about their experiences and success in the world of business, with the keynote address from former Olympic Swimmer, turned sports entrepreneur Katy Sexton MBE.
The double Olympian and former World and Commonwealth champion swimmer is one of Portsmouth’s most successful athletes and was the first British female swimmer to win gold at the 2003 World Championships in the 200m backstroke. Now wanting to give something back to her local community, she will be explaining how she launched and manages the Katy Sexton Swim Academy.
‘Finding both a business opportunity and way of giving back to the community in which she grew up captures the essence of what JCI is all about,’ says Jasmine Blofield, President of JCI Portsmouth. ‘Katy’s passion, ambition and determination makes her the perfect keynote speaker to share her inspirations and ideas on how we can all drive ourselves to perform at our best and achieve our goals, both personal and professional.’
Another local young professional booked to speak at the event is PR and Marketing entrepreneur Robin Lander Brinkley. Founder of Maxwell Communications and winner of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations' first ever 'Best Freelancer Practitioner' Excellence Award, he will be speaking to the group about the ever changing world of marketing, the influence of social media on modern business and the importance of reputation, image and communicating effectively.
The event will include a speech from the JCI UK National President Solveig Malvik, who will be making her first official visit to JCI Portsmouth. Solveig will explain the work of JCI on local, national and international levels and the benefits members receive in terms of personal and professional development.
‘We are very excited to have Solveig join us for our first public launch,’ says Jasmine. ‘In the last few years we have been working hard to create a dynamic, interesting and enjoyable branch of the organisation and now we feel ready to really draw attention to ourselves to recruit more members.’
‘Whether you want to learn more skills, get new ideas or simply meet other young professionals and expand your network of contacts, this promises to be a very exciting event.’
Places for the event are free and a buffet supper will be provided. To book, click the button below or visit www.jci-portsmouth-open-evening.eventbrite.com call 023 9265 8258 or email info@jciportsmouth.org.uk
