JCI Takeover Radio Barnsley!
JCI Takeover Radio Barnsley!
JCI's recent takeover at Radio Barnsley was a fantastic evening for all concerned. Considering the purpose was to promote JCI's Regional Competition 'Yorkshire's Hidden Heroes' - for which Radio Barnsley have been nominated - the show couldn't have had much more enthusiasm from staff, guests and listeners alike!
There is no doubt that Yorkshire's Hidden Heroes is a fabulous opportunity to recognise the hard work and hidden efforts of so many people who live, work and volunteer across the Yorkshire towns and cities; and Radio Barnsley definitely deserve the gong they've been nominated for.
In true JCI style, the Barnsley Chamber organising the competition (under the steering of their deputy president and community director Charlie Pearson) have made the participation requirements as inclusive and flexible as possible. Anyone can nominate or be nominated providing they offer a brief outline of the qualifying achievements (approx 200 wds), a photo, and a small donation.
Sportsmen and women, local activists, support workers and carers, volunteers, business people, local artists, inventors, innovators - anyone who's done anything to improve the areas they live or work in socially, economically, educationally or politically can be recognised for their efforts! It's an incredible competition that will become an artistic exhibition at Barnsley's very own Civic Theatre from 22nd Sept 2012 (for more information see the our Facebook page).
As presenter on the evening I had the fun task of operating the radio system, selecting the tracks and opening discussions with the JCI directors. We had a great response from listeners, with a larger audience than we'd typically expect for a Wed evening radio slot. Have to say we're thinking of making the JCI and Radio Barnsley pairing a regular fixture. Watch this space!
