Dementia Awareness Week 2015
As many of you may be aware BIADS (Barnsley Independent Alzheimer's and Dementia Support) is the nominated JCI Barnsley charity for 2015.
What you may be less aware of is that this week (18th - 24th May) is dementia awareness week. To help this cause JCI Barnsley would like to take the opportunity to raise awareness of the vital work BIADS does and encourage you to help too.
BIADS has a dedicated centre in Barnsley where they provide support to those affected by dementia, their carers, families and friends through information, emotional support, social opportunities, meaningful activities and events. They have a range of services that they hope will enable members to live well with dementia in the community. You can find more information on the services BIADS offers here.
To raise much needed funds JCI Barnsley have previously hosted events such as a bake off were we raised funds by selling cakes. We have also been fundraising at events we've hosted such as the annual dinner and attended events hosted by BIADS such as a 50's disco.
On Sunday 7th June we will be hosting The Great BIADS Bake Off. We will have a stall at Barnsley market to sell cakes. The bake off competition will have a birthday cake theme in celebration of BIADS 5th birthday on 6th June. We hope to see you there supporting BIADS, JCI and treating yourself to some delicious cake!
On 14th June we will be participating in the BIADS Annual Celebration Walk and would love for you to come and join us in supporting BIADS on their fifth annual walk around Worsbrough Reservoir. BIADS will supply bottles of water to take on the walk and there is a Tea Room on site.
On 11th July will be at the Mayors Parade and on 26th September we will be participating in a charity bike ride in the Alhambra Centre to raise funds and awareness for BIADS. Watch out for more information on these closer to the time!
At all of these events we will be wearing the t-shirts shown below so we will be easy to spot - come over and say hi!
