Chocolate Chatters - our visit to Cadbury World

On Saturday 15th February, we visited Cadbury World in Birmingham. JCI members from Sheffield, Doncaster, Leeds and Manchester braved the wet and windy weather to learn about how Cadbury's was first established in 1824 by John Cadbury who who sold tea, coffee and drinking chocolate. Cadbury developed the business with his brother Benjamin, followed by his sons Richard and George.
What was really interesting was to hear that the Cadbury business was one of the first to recognise the positive impact on business success of having good working practices for staff. Cadbury introduced a 5.5 working day week, sick pay and built houses for their workers and even a hospital!
As well as being given several bars of chocolate (bonus!), we also met the Cadburys Caramel Bunny, the Cadburys Parrot and Bertie Basset! Cadbury World had lots of interactive elements including a 4D cinema and chance to write your name in chocolate! We couldn't resist! Whilst this was meant to be more of a social event for members to hang out together, we definitely learned lots of history and felt like we had a business tour too!
