Below is a taster of what to expect over the course of the weekend. Check back regularly as we shall update the site with more information as items are confirmed.
The weekend programme will contain all of the key elements that previous attendees have come to expect from a JCI UK National Convention – including the TOYP awards lunch, Friday night social, Morning Show, the public speaking competitions (Extempore, individual Public Speaking and team Debating), keynote speakers, training sessions, National Council, and of course the highlight of the weekend – the National Awards and Gala Dinner.
In line with our theme of “The Power of Us” we intend to integrate the Senators and current members as much as possible through a number of combined sessions and activities.
We also want to ensure that our Community-oriented offering forms a major part of the convention weekend and we will therefore be focussing on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal Number 3 ‘Good Health and Well Being’, working with Wessex Heartbeat, our chosen charity partner, to provide opportunities to raise awareness of heart disease as well as helping the charity with its local fundraising and awareness raising activities.
Friday 24th November 2017
We are pleased to be able to confirm that Hampshire Chamber of Commerce have agreed to host a joint event with us on the Friday morning and therefore the day will start at 9am. We will have a number of key note speakers and the TOYP Awards lunch where this year’s JCI UK TOYP Honourees will be recognised. In the afternoon after another keynote speaker we will have the annual Public Speaking competition.
There will also be an opportunity to hear all about our charity partner Wessex Heartbeat.
On Friday evening we will head next door to the Dancing Man Brewery, a local independent micro-brewery for a social evening which will include the annual Extempore contest and a fun quiz accompanied by a buffet meal.
Saturday 25th November 2017
Saturday morning will kick off with the Morning Show – a great way to get everyone invigorated for a full day ahead. The National Council will convene shortly afterwards. Whilst the National Council Meeting is going on there will also be the chance to visit the National Oceanographic Centre, and also other training sessions.
The afternoon will consist of the Debating competition; another keynote speaker; as well as some fun & informative break-out activities (to include a coffee making experience at the Costa Academy and the chance to design your own Christmas card in our art class).
The Saturday programme will conclude with the sparkling National Awards and Gala Dinner, which will be held in the luxurious setting of the Mayflower Suite at the Grand Harbour hotel.
Sunday 26th November 2017
Sunday morning’s events will include the Senate Breakfast and a training course before we say our farewells around midday.
