JCI Sheffield Room 101 – speaking in public series

Date & Time

27th May, 2021

07:00 PM – 08:30 PM

This fun event is part of JCI Sheffield’s speaking in public series and is inspired by the popular TV series ‘Room 101’. The show features celebrities discussing their ‘pet hates’ in the hope of persuading the host (Paul Merton and in later years Frank Skinner) to banish them into Room 101.

You are warmly invited to face our judging panel of JCI Senators and state your case using your powers of persuasion to try and convince them to admit the things that you find irritating into Room 101. You may choose up to three subjects, objects or people as your top peeve, annoyance, irritation or worst nightmare to the depths of Room 101 forever. Or if you are stuck for inspiration, you could choose the extempore ‘off the cuff’ option and we will give you a subject to pitch to get into Room 101 after only a few seconds to think before speaking!

With our own unique twist on the contest, our judges can only banish a certain number of pet hates into Room 101. So even if your proposed irritants are let in, whether or not they get to remain as further contestants following you pitch for their annoying subjects, will remain to be seen!

Judges will take into account structure of arguments, entertaining and fun pitches and whether they are convinced by your pitch.

Sign up to this fun event to take part or to watch the shenanigans unfold!
