JCI members share a passion to challenge and develop themselves. They understand that developing their skills helps improve the world around them. Our mission is to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change and that's why JCI offers a wealth of training opportunities to its members.
Each local chamber organises a varied programme of business seminars and training workshops. You can attend seminars and watch key note speakers at national and international conferences. Wherever in the world you are, you can count on training in JCI being practical, supportive, inexpensive, interactive and fun.
Public speaking is feared by many and loved by those who have conquered their fear. In JCI there are always opportunities for members to develop their public speaking skills, banish those fears and make a huge impact with the power their speeches have to inspire, to motivate, to unite.
There are three core speaking opportunities in JCI, each offering a different spin on speaking skills:
Public Speaking - The ability to write and deliver effective prepared speeches is a key competency for anyone wishing to excel in a leadership role within and outside of JCI.
Debating - How do you persuade others of your point of view and react to the arguments of others? Debating is a mixture of preparation, teamwork, quick and clever retorts and good humour.
Extempore - Light-hearted and always entertaining, extempore is impromptu or off-the-cuff speaking. With no preparation, participants are asked to speak on a subject for one to two minutes.
Every year competitions are held in each of these disciplines locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Competing is a fantastic way for members to push the limits of their comfort zone, hone their skills and have fun.
These are courses designed by JCI and they look the same all over the world. They help members to understand more about the organisation and the opportunities available.
JCI Achieve - This course helps all members to understand the purpose of JCI, exploring the Vision, Mission and Values and activitiesavailable to JCI members.
JCI Impact - Being an active citizen is core to being a JCI member and this course teaches members how to analyse community needs to ensure they create sustainable solutions and lasting positive change.
JCI Admin - Introduces all prospective leaders to the structure of a local board and the 'nuts-and-bolts' of running of a successful chamber.
There are also skills development courses, such as Effective Communication, Leadership and Meetings, plus recommended courses including Presenter, CSR and Networking. Look out for these courses hosted by local chambers and at international conferences.
Become a Trainer
By taking part in the JCI Official Courses, JCI members can become trainers themselves and share their experiences, knowledge and skills with other members. JCI UK has recently introduced a National Training Team to ensure members develop their skills as trainers in a supportive environment. For further information please click here.
